Rodney Hutchinson passed away September 20, 2026, on the final day of his 71st year with us.  

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Rodney Dean Hutchinson was born September 21, 1955, in South Dakota, the son of Eugene and Lois (Campbell) Hutchinson Hale. He grew up in various places throughout Iowa before settling for a time in Humboldt.  In 1972, at the age of 17, Rodney enlisted in the United States Army. While serving, he completed his high school education at a military base in Kansas. He later reenlisted and served in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1980.

On June 15, 1977, Rodney was united in marriage to Mary Sirbaugh in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1989, they made their home in Humboldt and Dakota City, where they raised their children. Rodney attended the six-week college program at Iowa Central Community College. From 2004 until 2017, he worked as a truck driver, traveling throughout nearly all of the United States. He absolutely loved being behind the wheel and enjoyed the many places and experiences that came with life on the road.

Rodney enjoyed fishing and camping, always believing that true camping meant sleeping in a tent. He loved collecting things and, when he was younger, woodworking. He made many special things for his children. He enjoyed watching westerns, listening to old country music, and anything related to truck driving. He especially loved spending time with his family, who were the most important part of his life. Rodney also found enjoyment in the simple pleasures of watching the deer and squirrels around his home.

Rodney passed away peacefully at his home in Dakota City on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 70. His passing marks the loss of a cherished life, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary of Dakota City; children, Rodney Hutchinson Jr. of Ames, Angela (Barrin) Hanson of Clarion, Theresa (Adrian) Rubio of Humboldt, Darla Hutchinson of Fort Dodge; adopted children, Andrea Lowe of Fort Dodge and Michael Lowe of Kamrar; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Drake, Kendrick, Reece, Serenity, Kesara, Arianna, Aaron, Hadley, Lia; siblings, Kenny (Diane) Hutchinson, Darla Chase, MaLinda (Doug) Davis, Cindy (Dan) Jacobs; brother-in-law, Lance (Erin) Fortin; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Eugene and Lois; brother, Frank Hutchinson; sister, Barbara Cole; nephews, Joey and Michael Stoddard; niece, Tina Hutchinson; maternal grandparents; and paternal grandparents.
