John M. Callahan, 71, of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 2025 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion. We knew him fondly as "Clubbo," another of the many nicknames that followed members of our class.
John was born March 30, 1954 in Humboldt, the son of Maurice and Doris (Berkhimer) Callahan. He was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1973. He worked in construction early on for Sande Construction then managed Spahn & Rose Lumber Company in Eagle Grove. John then sold windows for Mason City Millwork and later as an independent, selling Anderson Windows to area lumber yards. John retired in 2013 due to health reasons.
John continued to pursue his passion for music. He played with the Lazy River Band, playing rhythm guitar and singing backup vocals. He played many sets at local area establishments, including the VFW. He enjoyed college football, especially the Iowa State Cyclones and tailgating.
John is survived by his children Nathan (Marla) Callahan of Indianola and Kelly (Heath) Froisland of Rolfe, his grandchildren; Ethan, Everson, Sydney and Jordyn, his brother David (Sharon) Callahan Sr. of Ames, his sisters, Margaret Ruble of Eldora and Dorie (Roger) Joanning of Norwalk, Iowa.
Graveside Services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 atn St. Mary Cemetery, Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com https://www.masonlindhart.com/obituaries/john-callahan
