Obituary: 

Michael S. Everhard, 65, of Fonda, died Thursday, June 18, 2020, at UnityPoint Trinity Regional Medical Center.  A service honoring Michael’s life was held Friday, June 26, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Military honors were presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. Visitation was 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.

Michael is survived by his children, Michael A. (Jamie) Everhard, Des Moines; Amy (Jonathan) Gardner, Newton; Steven Everhard, Fonda; 18 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a sister Janet (Bruce) Hamilton, Sioux Falls, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George.

Michael Steven Everhard, the son of Raymond and Shelda (Day) Everhard, was born March 31, 1955, in Fort Dodge. He was reared and educated in Fort Dodge, Barnum and Humboldt and attended Humboldt School. Michael served in the United States Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, served in Vietnam and Guam and also had tours in India and Cambodia. He was a truck driver for a while and worked for IBP and later Tyson Food in Storm Lake and Waterloo for 40 years. Michael also started an auto repair business with his son Steven.

Michael was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, enjoyed fishing and loved to have a wrench in his hands to help make things better. Michael greatly treasured his family and would do anything for them.
